Sandals Royal Caribbean (SRC) is situated on a beautiful stretch of beach in Montego Bay, Jamaica. SRC is Jamaica’s only resort with a Private Offshore Island. The resort is known for its stunning views of the Caribbean Sea. My husband and I had the pleasure of spending a week at this spectacular resort in October 2021 for our 15th wedding anniversary. Here is an overview of Sandals Royal Caribbean:
Accommodations: The resort offers 27 room categories for guests to choose from. Some of these rooms include magnificent Swim-Up Crystal Lagoon Suites, Suites with Tranquility Soaking Tubs for two. Exquisite, one of a kind Over-the-Water Private Island Butler Villas with Infinity Pools and Over-the-Water Private Island Butler Honeymoon Bungalows. The Villas and bungalows are accessed from the private island. There are 5 Villas and 12 Bungalows that together form a heart shape over the Caribbean Sea.
We stayed in an Over-the-water bungalow when we celebrated our anniversary! We stayed in Bungalow 9007, which was the second bungalow after the Villas. This was a perfect location for privacy and watching the sunset! We had two butlers taking care of our every need during our week-long stay in paradise! As a wife and mom to three children, I am used to being the one to take care of others. It was refreshing to have the opportunity to be cared for by our butlers! They went above and beyond throughout our stay! They made all our dinner reservations, brought us numerous special treats and drinks, reserved our couples massage at the Red Lane Spa, and so much more! They made the day of our anniversary extra special by decorating the bungalow, setting up a romantic bubble bath and arranging us a private dinner right on the deck in our room. We ate dinner and watched the sunset; it was exceptional and will always be a cherished memory!
Dining: As an all-inclusive resort, SRC provides a range of dining options. There are 9 exquisite 5 Star Global Gourmet® restaurant options. British-style afternoon tea is served daily. There is a British Pub offering an authentic pub dining, be sure to try the crispy mozzarella sticks, they were delicious! Guests can enjoy meals at multiple on site-restaurants, each offering diverse culinary experiences. The resort features both international and local Jamaican cuisine. All our meals and desserts were delectable! Some of our favorite dishes were chicken alfredo, steak and lobster, and the fresh-to-order brick oven pizza! Our favorite frozen tropical drinks were the Ziggy Marley, Pina Colada, and Purple Rain!
Activities and Entertainment: Sandals resorts are known for providing a wide range of activities and entertainment. SRC offers a wide range of activities for guests to stay busy.
- All land sports such as volleyball, shuffleboard, croquet, lawn chess, and pool tables are included!
- The watersports available include scuba diving, canoes, kayaks, snorkeling, paddle boarding, sailboats, Hobie Cats, and tubing!
- For entertainment you will find beach parties, piano bar, live bands, theme nights, and a Jamaican Jamboree. We watched in awe at a wonderful acrobatic show with flame throwing one night! It was amazing!
- There is also a state-of-the art fitness center and the Red Lane Spa – which we indulged on a wonderful couples massage!
- SRC is located about 5 minutes away from Sandals Montego Bay. With this proximity between the resorts, guests are able to Stay at 1 and Play at 2! With your transport including between the two resorts, you can experience the restaurants, beaches, and amenities Sandals Montego Bay has to offer! We did visit this resort one day to explore and enjoy a delicious dinner at Butches Steak and Seafood Restaurant!
- There are local adventure tours available through Island Routes. You can choose from a variety of excursions including river tubing, Catamaran Cruises, dolphin encounter, ziplining, Bob Marley Tour and our personal favorite, Dunn’s River Falls!
Unique Features: Along with the Over-the-Water accommodations, SRC has many exclusive features that guest rave about!
- The private offshore island is accessible via a short ride on the Dragon Boat. On the island you will find there are two beaches, one along the front where there are cabanas that can be rented for the day and a second, clothing optional beach is along the backside of the private island. There is also a The Royal Thai Restaurant and The Jerk Shack, where you can indulge on Jerk chicken!
- The mainland has a large white-sand beach with an abundance of chairs and beach volleyball. There are a total of four pools at SRC. There is one pool with a swim up bar located on the private island and on the mainland, there is a centrally located pool with swim up bar that hosts daily pool activities, and the other two pools are in the Kensington Cove village and Caribbean Village.
- Our stay in the Over-the-Water Bungalows allowed us the opportunity to view a multitude of sea life! We were lucky to observe an eagle ray, a 4-foot barracuda, cleverly named Barry, multiple stingrays, puffer fish, lionfish, and countless other sea creatures. This was one of my favorite parts of staying in the bungalows. We loved looking down at the water and discovering the world just below the surface!
